Grading Criteria:

70% Summative Assessments: Concerts, Music Theory, Sight Singing, Rhythm Reading, Singing Assessments, etc.

30% Formative Work: Daily Rehearsal Points, Music Theory Assignments, Music History Assignments, Vocal Lessons, etc.

Daily Rehearsal Points:

Each day in class, students can earn up to four points for demonstrating proper rehearsal skills. These skills include being prompt and prepared with all materials (choir folder, music, pencil), not distracting others, and participating to the best of their ability. Points will be deducted if students are not meeting these expectations. Each student will have three excused absences from class per semester, meaning they will not be deducted points if they are not in class. After three absences, students can make up their daily rehearsal points by signing out a practice room, and practicing on their own. 15 minutes of individual practice time makes up one full class period missed.

Vocal Lessons:

Students in 8th grade will be assigned a small group for their vocal lessons. These lessons will take place on non-choir days during 2nd period. The lessons will last 15 minutes, and students can expect to have a lesson roughly once every two weeks.

Students in 9th - 12th grade are required to attend two vocal lessons first semester, and one vocal lesson second semester. These lessons can be done individually or in a small group (no more than three). Students will schedule these lessons themselves. In second semester, solo/ensemble lessons can also count as part of each student's lessons.

Concerts:

Concert Attendance is mandatory for all students enrolled in choir, and one of the biggest parts of each student's grade. If a student has an excused absence from a concert, they can make those points back up to 100%. Excused absences would include (but not be limited to) family emergencies, illness, etc. Unexcused absences would include (but not be limited to) forgetting or deciding not to show up, not having transportation figured out ahead of time, work, scheduling issues, etc.

**When in doubt, communicate with me! Also, please make sure you mark your calendars with the concert dates as soon as possible to avoid having an unexcused absence.
