Grading Criteria:
70% Summative Assessments: Concerts, Music Theory, Sight Singing, Rhythm Reading, Singing Assessments, etc.
30% Formative Work: Daily Rehearsal Points, Music Theory Assignments, Music History Assignments, Vocal Lessons, etc.
Daily Rehearsal Points:
New in 25-26', rehearsal points will be tallied each week, with a total of 10 points in a week. Students will fill out a self evaluation in Google Classroom, rating their own rehearsal habits for a starting point. Mr. Perau will also grade each student on a weekly basis. 5 points for attendance, 2 points for preparedness, and 3 points for individual engagement and effort. **After 5 absences in a semester, students will get a 0 for rehearsal attendance on each subsequent day. This can be made up by completing a 15 minute independent practice session, and filling out the rehearsal make-up google form located in google classroom.
Sight Reading Factory:
We use Sightreadingfactory.com each day in class as a large group, and students in Mixed, Bella Voce, and Concert Choir will be given individual accounts. Students will complete one individual SRF assignment per month (will be given class time to complete), and will have an individual assessment at the end of each semester.
Music Theory/Vocabulary:
Each month, we will have unit of music theory and/or vocabulary that we will focus on, and will complete a short assignment at the end of the unit. Units will include note names, basic rhythms, dynamics, articulations, and more.
Vocal Lessons:
Students in 8th grade will be assigned a small group for their vocal lessons. The lessons will last 15 minutes, and students can expect to have a lesson roughly once every three weeks.
Students in 9th - 12th grade are required to attend one vocal lesson per semester. These lessons can be done individually or in a small group (no more than three). Students will schedule these lessons themselves. In second semester, solo/ensemble lessons can also count as part of each student's lessons.
Concerts:
Concert Attendance is mandatory for all students enrolled in choir, and one of the biggest parts of each student's grade. If a student has an excused absence from a concert, they can make those points back up to 100%. Excused absences would include (but not be limited to) family emergencies, illness, etc. Unexcused absences would include (but not be limited to) forgetting or deciding not to show up, not having transportation figured out ahead of time, work, scheduling issues, etc. A student that has an unexcused absence from a concert can make up 75% of the concert grade by scheduling a lesson, and performing all of the music from the concert with a video recording from the concert.
**When in doubt, communicate with me! Also, please make sure you mark your calendars with the concert dates as soon as possible to avoid having an unexcused absence.
